Amanda Riley

Amanda grew up in the woods of western Massachusetts. The scientists in her family taught her to observe, investigate, and appreciate her surrounding environment. Amanda continued to study the environment in college, taking a mix of biology, ecology, and earth science classes. In college she also had opportunities to research moth communities and relationships between plants and soils. Embarking on CSUMB’s Science Illustration program, Amanda hopes to gain skills that educate and engage others with nature, and hopefully inspire young people to enter biology, ecology, and earth science fields. She believes that making natural science accessible is important to our planet’s biodiversity and climate. Likewise, she aspires to carry forward Marie’s joy and mindfulness in future illustrations. Amanda is grateful for the Tentacles & Wings scholarship, which she will use to purchase a digital drawing tablet and other art materials for her upcoming classes.
