Marie’s Artwork
A student of philosophy, literature, science and religion, Marie’s inquisitive spirit is evident throughout her body of work. With equal measures of passion, talent and thoughtful inquiry, she brings the scientific world to life for us using watercolor, graphite, pencil and ink. From her delicate interpretation of the Green Darner Dragonfly’s wings to the detailed shading we see in her painting of the Great Blue Heron, each of these pieces represents hours of research and painstaking observation. Perhaps even more so, they reveal a remarkably independent thinker, with the confidence to observe the world through a lens that was wholly her own.

but essential creatures that too often go overlooked.
Marie’s artwork is unique not only in the care and attention she shows her subjects, but in her selection of the subjects themselves. Throughout her pieces, we find a respect and admiration for all living things, with a loving focus on the odd, but essential creatures that too often go overlooked. From parasitic fungus to killer algae, she shines a light on the forgotten and the feared, showing us both their beauty and the intrinsic role they play in our natural systems. Not only does Marie’s work reflect her careful observations of the world around her, it also reveals her sharp wit, sense of humor and whimsy. Her pen and ink drawings of the Sake pals are wonderful examples of her playfulness and humor as are her impromptu sketches of everyday life and events.
With each careful brush stroke, every meticulous line, Marie invites us to explore the fascinating narratives of the world around us. It ís a world teeming with color and complexity, and one that we might have otherwise missed. We hope that while taking in her work, you linger a moment and let your curiosity catch you, opening your eyes and mind to something new.
