2023 Heralds the Expansion of the Marie Siegenthaler Memorial Lending Library at College of Marin
Thanks to the generous response to our campaign earlier this year we have been able to continue our support of the College of Marin Fine Arts Dept Marie Siegenthaler Memorial Lending Library and fund an expansion of the library to include digital photography classes. The funds will be used to purchase 6 DSLR or Mirrorless camera kits, each kit will include a camera with several different lenses, memory card, battery, tripod, and camera bag, as well as additional equipment such as external mobile drives for both Mac and PCs, flash drives, and SD card readers. This equipment can be quite costly and the expense is a barrier for many students who might be considering a career in photography, but lack the resources to purchase the needed equipment. Marie's Lending Library will benefit all students interested in learning about photography. The equipment will be available in the 2023 Fall semester to lend to students and will also be available for students in class to try specific techniques.
“This gift will enable us to grow our photography program.
the addition of necessary tools will not only attract more students to the program but also level the playing field and create equity for all students”
In addition to the expansion of the Lending Library, the original lending library supplies and equipment continue to be used by students in Ceramics and Basic Drawing and Composition classes. From the Art Dept Chair:
“Marie’s Library has helped provide a more equitable learning experience in our foundational art studio courses by offering students the opportunity to borrow the non-consumable art supplies they need for the semester. We're thankful that Marie’s legacy can live on to support the growth and success of our art students, and grateful to Tentacles & Wings for their support.”
August begins another scholarship cycle for our Science Illustration students at Cal State Monterey Bay. We were fortunate to be able to attend the end-of-semester art exhibit in May at the Pacific Grove Natural History Museum and meet last year’s scholarship awardees. They expressed their deep gratitude for the scholarship money they received and described how it had helped them succeed in the program. We would be unable to provide this much needed support to aspiring art students without the support of YOU, our generous donors. We are asking once for your help as the new scholarship cycle begins. Each year Tentacles & Wings has been able to increase the number of scholarships and the amount of the awards. We would love to continue this tradition, but we cannot do it without you! We are asking for your help and would especially love to increase the number of monthly reoccurring donations we receive. Even a small monthly amount really helps! Thanks so much for your past and continued support! Donate here!
