Adara Koivula

Ever since I can remember, I was an entertainer. I loved to make my mom and friends—really anyone I spoke to—laugh. It always seemed like if you were laughing, you were happy, and I loved making people happy. I was also an artist, so it made sense that when I went to art school, I fell in love with entertainment design. There’s something magical about being immersed in a fantasy world of whimsy and joy. However, there was always a little something that seemed to be missing. I realized I had this desire to contribute to the world around me in a more lasting and meaningful way. When I found science illustration, I jumped at the chance to apply to Cal State Monterey Bay’s Scientific Illustration Certification Program. If I can make science communication a fun and engaging experience for others, then that feels like a win for all. There’s a lot that can still be learned and given back to this world, and I find it really gratifying to think I can contribute to some of that happiness and care. View Adara’s art here.
