Emma Vogan

Emma grew up on the central coast, and spends most of her time on or under water. She received her BA in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara in 2016, emphasizing in sustainable food systems and education. Her work in art and graphic design has included projects with the Surfrider Foundation, the Catalina Island Conservancy, a handful of student literary publications, musicians, and small businesses along the central coast. Drawing from time spent on the ocean and from exploring mountains from Northern California to Patagonia, her art revolves around natural shapes and human bodies in motion. As both an artist and scientist, her goal with the Science Illustration Program at CSUMB is to improve communication about marine science and the impact of human practices on coastal ecosystems. With the help of the Tentacles & Wings scholarship, she is excited to be supported in learning new skills to help her succeed in this pursuit. View more of Emma’s work here.
