Samantha Chang
Samantha “Sami” Chang was born and raised in the East San Francisco Bay Area. Growing up, she was encouraged by her parents to go outside and draw all of the things she saw, from the flowers in the front yard, to the fish in the ponds, to the birds in the sky. This fueled her love for not only art and nature, but art in nature. As her interests began to evolve, she went on to study marine science at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB). It was at CSUMB that she became passionate about ocean conservation through tidepool studies and whale watching. Even though she graduated in May of 2019, CSUMB cannot get rid of her quite yet as she will be furthering her studies through their Science Illustration 2019/2020 Program. She hopes to use her abilities and skills learned throughout the Science Illustration Program to help educate others on ocean conservation through detailed visuals. In her free time, Sami can be found eating dim sum with her family or playing with her three dogs.
With this scholarship, Sami plans to use the funds towards the tools and materials needed to create illustrations throughout the program. View more of Samantha’s work here.
